History
SportsChallenge ("SC") formed in 1996. A team of career educators wishing to develop future leaders through sports gathered experts together to create an unparalleled, comprehensive, research-based leadership curriculum designed for high school athletes. This curriculum became the cornerstone for the 1997 launching of the SportsChallenge Summer Academy where a very diverse group of student-athletes were brought together from all backgrounds and all parts of the country. In June of 2012, SC will proudly host our 15th Summer Academy.
In 1999, SC began to offer leadership workshops for high school and college students including captain's clinics, team leadership workshops, diversity training seminars and workshops for dorm proctors and prefects. All told, SportsChallenge has directly impacted more than 3,500 high school and college students from over 25 states and five countries.
In November of 2006, SportsChallenge Leadership Academy became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and has since developed a year-round college counseling program for first-generation college-bound students as well as a Coaches Institute designed to assist coaches in teaching leadership through sports. SportsChallenge staff now provide leadership consulting for schools and other organizations.
